Designing a sad robot (by folding paper)
I wanted to make a robot, but there are so many ways to do that! In the past, tackling projects with vague goals has left me aimlessly meandering. I wanted to avoid that this time, so I created a silly little limitation to help guide me: the robot I design has to be something I can build out of paper in the real world.
In this video I used Blender, the Paper Model add-on, Rebelle 7, and Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Substance Sampler.
Thanks for watching :)

Making 3D animation look painterly (it's easier than you think)
Просмотров 874 тыс.9 месяцев назад
In this video, I'll go over a surprisingly simple way to make your stylized 3D renders feel like a painting. I do it by painting over Object Space Normal Maps, which is not as scary as it sounds. This technique allows us to capture the feeling of a 2D painting while maintaining the flexibility of 3D. I used Blender, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, and Rebelle to make the stylized tea ket...
i'm having a medium sized blast (ur vids are actually insanely comfy dude)
great video
I’m still mid making the doughnut, but I can’t stop looking at the possibilities of blender
Hello there neighbour
Great video! Thank you so much. :)
I prefer the original, with detail
This is amazing.....Too bad you have so few videos!!!

little comment after like and sub <3 first 3 minutes hooked me!
luh marco bucci ahh
the problem is the cast shadow of the 3d houses. i really think eliminating it would be better than using the 2d version
This is great and what a ilustration artist would do😂
7:25 I haven't done this, but if you take your painted normal map and convert it to greyscale, then overlay the colour you want for the base colour, does that give you matching paint strokes in the family of the base colour? Or maybe using the greyscale map as an input to a colour ramp thing (so that you can vary the hue)? After writing this, I realize that would match the colour variation to the normal, which might not be the intended effect, so it's not very flexible actually. But it could let you tint the shadows differently than the lighting for the rest of the scene, for what that's worth.
I think adding interaction for light would be very cool, I would recommend taking a look at the ori and the will of the wisps gdc talk where they talk about their Uber shader lighting system
absolutely based video
awesome
THANK YE WOW WONDERFUL TECHNICQUE!!
So cool! Love this style!
A tiny detail that doesn't really matter either way. Both look equally good. We artist do focus on unnecessary detail do we?
Like the older ones
The second one seems better, and blend more naturally than the one before. Because the houses before have more details, you tend to want to look there but in the second one there are less details thus you force the viewer to not want to look there (or just quickly) which is what you want. The focus stays on the first house :)
I mean u deserve it 2:18
Good vid, bro.
WOW, this is so helpful!! Can't believe it's the first video on your channel!
Before is better
❤
I don't know how I got here but this is amazing
Eh…before looks better. Sometimes it’s best to just acknowledge that 3D is 3D and let 3D be 3D. It already looks plenty illustrated enough.
Thanks!
Wow! Thank YOU. This is my first Super Thanks ever :)
@@codygindyThanks for making it an option and for creating such an excellent tutorial! I love that it's specific, clear, and to the point. I appreciate your work!
Awesome video!
Brilliant!
a little comment
Hey Cody, question......do you think that painting the normal map in blender, then painting the base color in like 3d coat would add to this? Or would it make it worse or no difference?
I'm having an absolute blast
Your style is phenomenal. As a future animator I cherish that I've found this channel and I'll learn what I can from it.
I like the first one, it actually looks complex
Beautiful !
he should win fire fighter of the century
It looks worse but you could fix it with normal maps (impostors). The biggest problem is the lack of structure. It looks nonsensical. Look for references!
love this guys style
Hi, in your tutorial for the painterly effect for blender you mentioned that you could use procreate to paint the normal map but I cant seem to figure out how to do it.
This is badass
Fantastic material thank you!
This is really cool
I love this I'm doing a realy similar thing with an art exibition
자막 덕분에 보기가 너무 좋아요! 감사합니다!!
I’d open the gate. It’s still beautiful
I'd change fence tone
Maby the fence could be open
Absolutely amazing 😊
Thank you! 😊
